7 tips for new Vdopa players
Just opened the first door of the Vdopa Manor? Here are seven tips to help you get started smoothly.
1. Every letter is built on the same grid
All letters in the game are made of straight and diagonal strokes on the same 4×6 grid. Once you know these shapes, two or three strokes are often enough to guess the letter: two verticals with a bar in the middle can only be an H.
2. Corners matter more than long lines
When aligning glass or turning rings, do not just check whether long strokes join. Watch the right angles and the joints where two strokes meet; they only fit perfectly when the position is truly right.
3. Decoys tend to be loners
From puzzle 2 there are decoy strokes that belong to no letter. They usually float alone, connected to nothing. If a stroke never forms a sensible shape, ignore it for now.
4. Use the found-code strip
When you solve a mechanism, its letters also appear in a small strip above the input boxes. Reading them there is much easier than on the board, especially in multi-step puzzles where the code is revealed piece by piece.
5. The magnifier comes in flavours
In some puzzles the magnifier points at the key spot of the mechanism; in others it fills in the first letter. If you have already solved the mechanism but are unsure of a letter, using it then always fills in the first one. Remember that using it caps that puzzle at one star.
6. Puzzles do not run away
Single-player has no timer that makes you lose. If you are stuck, rest your eyes for a minute, get a drink, and come back. Visual puzzles often become easier when you return with fresh eyes.
7. Collect stars later
There is no need to get three stars on the first try. Move on, then replay from the mansion map. The second time you already know where the code hides and usually finish much faster. Your best result is always kept.
